I prefer Australia by far. Australia is a much better friend to the U.S. It is also a LOT warmer than Canada duh Also I think Australian society is more stable as Canada openly encourages immigrants NOT to assimlate completely which will eventually lead to a more and more disunified society like we are seeing in European countries. Australia has a big emphasis on assimilation into their culture and loyalty to their country, the way it should be done in the US as well.

Both countries have their pluses and minuses! Both are stable. I would suspect that Americans would find more familiarity in Canada.
As for assimulation, ask the indigenous Australians about that. You may find a different point of view. There are immigrants to Australia who have no wish to take on Australian values or ways of life too. The Australian climate is not ideal, it can be harsh and drought ridden. Why do you think people live on the coast mainly? It's because the interior is mostly uninhabltable and won't sustain even a moderate population!
If you want to emigrate to Australia you have to have skills. They are very chosey as to who they let in. It is very difficult to get a visa!

This explains it
My Country
My Country
The love of field and coppice
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies
I know, but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!
The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When, sick at heart, around us
We see the cattle die
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze ...
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand
though Earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.

There are so many variables about chosing a country you should do your own research and reach out to migrants in the countries you are considering. Both countries have a test to see if you qualify. If you qualify this does not mean you will be successful once you get there. You will hear migrants complain about both countries. You will hear debates as to which cities are best for what fields. In the end the decision and research is yours so chose carefully.

Living in either CDA or Aussie...
I have some questions about taxes in Australia. Does anyone know if you have to pay property taxes on your property on an annual basis the way that we do in Vancouver Canada?
I not sure, but I think in Australia property tax is a one shot payment, i.e. you just pay in upon the purchase of your property????
Thanks!

What is known as property taxes in Canada is termed council rates here. Same sort of thing. Same annual payments that go up every year. They were quite a bit more in Vancouver when we lived there. Last bill was $2600/yr. About a third of that here, when we arrived, although it's now up to $1300 ten years later. And we don't have a separate refuse pick-up tax here like we did in Vancouver. It's included in the Council Rates.
You also pay water rates as well: the Supply Charge on an annual basis and the actual Water Usage twice a year. This is the way it is in Perth. Others can pipe up to say how they pay where they live.
The one-shot payment you mentioned is like the property purchase tax you have when you buy a house, or at least you did when we lived there. Here it's called Stamp Duty. Same annoying thing. It varies per state and is a pretty big whack.
Hope I explained that well.

Never been to Australia, born and raised in Canada...
but every time I go on holidays to somewhere warmer have I never "wanted" to come back to Canada,
unless it's to see certain family members or friends.
(weather preferences )

Both are awesome countries, but I'm gonna say Canada. Australia is just too far from home for me, plus I don't like hot weather.
