Absolutely shocking! This is the first mass shooting in Christchurch ever. Six people are confirmed dead after a gunman opened fire in the Christchurch Mosque near Hagley Park just an hour ago. The police had to evacuate thousands of children who were rallying for climate change in the nearby Cathedral Square. This is the most terrifying thing to happen here in NZ. We just don't have this sort of stuff happen.

My daughter's school is on lock-down. All the schools are. The gunman is still at large and has tried to shoot up another mosque in Linwood. Reports coming in of up to 50 casualties...including children.

People need to go donate blood soon because this is going to greatly reduce supplies. This is a terrorist attack regardless of the race, religion, or nationality of the attackers and victims.

The whole city is still on lockdown because 5 of the 6 shooters are still at large, still shooting and a bomb threat. My heart breaks for the victims.

Yes a hate attack that has resulted in grave consequences. How dreadful for anywhere, but for a country as New Zealand, if possible more so. Not known to be a country of gross intolerance or religious hatred, if it can happen there, it surely can happen anywhere.
Thoughts go out to those impacted in any way.

Another despicable act, one highly reminiscent of the recent Pittsburgh synagogue and Quebec City mosque shootings.

My condolences to anyone affected.

That's exactly it Troubadour. We have never had a terrorist mass shooting and it changes everything. I'm still waiting to be able to get my daughter but the whole city is on lock down with active shooters still roaming the city. This is so devastating, so utterly senseless.
