Yarraville in the inner west and Armadale in the inner east are pretty safe areas as are Glen Iris and Burwood.

However there are occasions of violent crime in Melbourne but it's just like anywhere else in other similar sized cities in the world.

I can see your one of these pathetic american suckjobs

sad you can,t even tell the truth

American cities are the most dangerous in the western world easily . what an absurd lie trying to claim san jose or ny is safer than melbourne > your living in afantasy world and your very blinded or maybe your an american living in Melbourne . we have about 64000 americans in australia who were born in the US and who now claim australian citinzenship

melbourne has become overcrowded through excessive immigration and we don,t want more of these psycho americans here or africans either. Stay where you are in america

Melbourne is relatively safe, but there are some craphole suburbs to avoid after dark...the most notorious and violent and filthy of these are Footscray, Sunshine, Dandenong, Springvale, Noble Park, and Hallam. Avoid these places, they are full of poor ethnic troublemakers. Once on the train home afte dark, some stupid piece of crap kid spat on the window where I was sitting at Dandenong station....that's an example of the trash that reside in the aforementioned hell holes. Another time, a group of thugs got on at Dandenong and tried to make me feel uncomfortable, until a ticket inspector got onboard at another station and found out they had no tickets... and were fined! Aviod the aforementioned suburbs, they are dirty, filthy, scummy hellholes inhabited by society's lowest form of human trash. ANother result of excessive immigration and "multiculturism" which is promoted to be a "good thing" but in reality causes nothing but racial divides and tension

Whereabouts in Melbourne do you reside? Just out of curiosity.

Wow you are going to Cairns on Sunday? We were thinking of going to Cairns next week, but probably won't, need to save up to go to Brissie. Never been to FNQ but shall go soon.

Yeah it's not bad, but the Dandenongs are a little bit further north. Definately not the 3rd world country that is Hallam and Dandenong which are barely 10km away!

We took the train to Belgrave when we went to the Dandenongs, so I think we missed Dandenong itself. I love the Dandenong Ranges, Puffing Billy, all that lovely forest and the gardens too. When we went in 2002 Melbourne was in the midst of a summer cold wave; my first taste of Melbourne! Not sure if you remember that far back but for the first 3-4 days the temp did not get above 20C in summer, with a few 15-16C days. The Dandenongs felt winterlike on that trip.
