I'm an Australian and I've certianly never come across anyone, who had something negative to say about New Zealander's! I'm not sure where you've been going?

Yeah. We 'rib' each others culture all time and there's major celebrations, when we beat each other. But neither country is ever mean sprirted or insulting towards each other.

Im Australian, and I really hate when Im travelling and people will say "Oh yeah, Ive been/want to go to Australia and NZ" as if they were two states of the same place and were indistinguishable. Or when they talk to me about NZ, its like "I have no idea what your talking about, being Australian doesnt mean I know about NZ".
I think generally Australians view NZs negatively, dont know about the other way around. The stereotype I have heard is that NZs come here, go on social security and live on the beach. Maoris are seen as trouble makers and drunks. People say to NZs "would the last one leaving turn out the light" as supposedly there are huge numbers that leave NZ every year for Australia. Personally have no idea as I havent encountered any.

THE_POWER_WITH_IN_AU is just stirring the pot. You get all types of people in all countries.
BTW The Australian Lowy Institute Poll is conducted every year and the countries that feature as the most trusted and liked by Australians are New Zealand in No 1 spot by a wide margin followed by Britain and Canada then another wide margin to the next country.
Think about your own friends. Some aspects of their characters may annoy you, yet they remain your friends. The same could be said about the relationship between nationalities.

As far as the sterotype about Kiwis going to Oz and sponging off the taxpayers. Statistically it has been shown that both Kiwi and Pom immigrants to Oz work longer hours than Oz born people. As a proportion fewer Kiwis and Poms are on the dole. The Oz government wants working immigrants who fit in to Oz society quickly to support the aging baby boomers. NZers fit that role. To the Aussies who loved Pauline Hanson - guess where that other "Aussie" conservative right wing political hero, Joh Bjelke Petersen, was born - NZ.
