Default Ashburton, NZ

Just wondering if anyone knows of any long term lodging facilities in the Ashburton area? My DH will be heading there for a while very soon and is looking for places with small kitchens and reasonable rates. Length of stay is still unknown, but will be for a least a month and probably longer.

Self Contained & Serviced

I think it was the Ashburton Lodge and Conference center that looked new and decent when I last drove past in Dec 2007. I've never stayed there in the area, but I usually stop there to grab a burger at McD's in between going back and forth between ChCh and the south. Ashburton and the area is a decent little town. It reminds me of the Front Range of Colorado without the people.

Thanks for the link! These all look pretty nice and seem to be pretty reasonable, esp. if 2 people split a room! Thanks again!

With the kiwi dollar falling through the floor and tourism dropping off in New Zealand, accommodation prices I've been tracking seem to start being competitive again like 5-6 years ago.

Another resource I used several times to book cheap accommodation in New Zealand was Wotif.com: Hotels, Accommodation, Motels, Serviced Apartments, B&B - Online hotel bookings with instant confirmation

I managed to get some great bargains with wotif and would cross check the properties with various review sites to make sure they were not dumps.

We are lucky in that we have been there before, plus my husband's buddy lives in Timaru, so he is a great resource. The prices of most seem to be very reasonable, compared to what we paid in Sydney this past March and Christchurch back in 2005. It is looking like the company he is going to be working for is renting them a house, which would be much better in the long run as far as food and cooking for the guys!
