That's your interpretation. When I read that all Aussie doctors suck and all they give is panadol, or there are no 24 hour stores in Australia... these sound like generalizations to me and to quite a few others -- ergo the somewhat heated discussion. Instead they could have said "my doctor.." (singular) or the area I lived did not have (singular)...
1. My doctor, my wife's doctor, my friends' doctors, how many more doctors do you need? One of my friends was even told to take a Panadol for eye irritation from working too long on a computer!!
2. In a previous post, I named about 5 major shopping centers in the metropolitan Melbourne area that are only open 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and weekends and up to 9 PM on Thursday and Friday. Other shopping strips like Glen Ferrie Rd or Chapel St also follow similar timings.
Since you seem to know better, can you tell me what other places can you buy from beyond these hours?

its pretty obvious by now that Melbourne suxs and you made a bad choice of city. Sydney would have been less of a shock for you. Those shopping hours you quoted havent existed in Sydney since 83.

That's bizarre. I've never had a doctor tell me to just take Panadol. But then I don't go to the doc much and when I do, it's not for something that requires only mild pain relief. I can usually figure that much out for myself. Maybe you and your friends had a run of bad luck and have seen Australia's worst doctors? Weird.
I've seen and see about four different doctors here in Perth, and I'd give them all a gold star. No Panadol recommendations from any of them. It's always the mega-stronger stuff
And I love having private health insurance. Had my bunged up left shoulder fixed nicely, and my right knee as well. Lovely hospital with a river view, fantastic staff, and even great food! I'll miss that when we move back to Canada and have to go cattle-class when it comes to health care.

You are not getting what I am trying to say. Its in HOW you generalize, how you wrote things that got people riled up. And my experiences are completely different from yours, and it appears the great majority of people who commented had a different experience as well. I've had eye infections, asthma, etc., have gone to hospital ER a few times... not ONCE was I told to take Panadol.. HA HA HA.. The care I got was as good as my private care in NYC, but more personal. I had a doctor who called me at home on a Friday NIGHT to check up on me -- shocked the hell out of me as I was used to US doctors. So people have different experiences and its in HOW you stated things, not your experiences.

So whats your point?
Anyways, moving on.

Vichel, I avoid going to doctors as much as I can and I fall sick probably once in 2 yrs. I lived in 2 different places in Melbourne and went to reputed doctors there (I say "reputed" based on asking around at work/neighbors and getting their testimonials)
If it was me alone, I definitely agree it may be bad luck, but when 5 people experience similar incompetence with 5 different doctors, it cant be attributed to bad luck.
I had private health insurance while in Australia but I have never had to use a hospital or ER ever, so cant argue with you on that one
You asked me specific questions... I responded.
And I am sure SEVERAL OF US are happy to see you moving on!
Good on ya mate!
