Aussies vs Kiwis: who do you prefer to live with?
I know it's a very very broad question, and one that cannot be answered that seriously, but if the only factor in you choosing to live in NZ or Australia was the people, who would you rather relate with on a day-to-day basis? I haven't lived in NZ for any long time, and I know people tend to treat tourists differently, but I found Kiwis a bit friendlier, and more genial than Australians. In addition they didn't seem so easily offended/likely to act aggressively or boorishly as many Australians tend to be. Maybe this relates more to city folk here, as I find people in the country a lot nicer in either country. Also I haven't really been out with a lot of drunk New Zealanders so that might be another equation...I haven't been to the North Island since I was very young so maybe this applies more to the South Island.

Well all I can say is me and a kiwi were workmates many years ago and rented a flat between us but on my return from holidays I found him gone, the flat in a mess, I copped a heap of flak from the owners, and he did a bunk without paying the rent....Soooooooo Wally, if you're out there somewhere maaaaaaaate, you owe me some sponduliks...and a drink to make up for the flak I copped .

I've flatted with several Kiwis, English, Irish, Americans and Canadians but only ever two Australians. I would say one of the Australians was the best flat mate I've ever had and the other one was the worst flat mate I've ever had. Based on my experience then I couldn't draw any conclusions one way or the other, but I found it interesting that the only two I flatted with represented the far extremes of good and bad.

You're right of course Marc, after the kiwi disappeared into the sunset I had an aussie move in...and he was a pig left crap everywhere, so there you go. At least the kiwi kept the place tidy when he (or "WE"?)were there....'til the party he threw the night before moonlighting! (geez we had some fun though). Oddly enough that aussie bloke and me have been mates ever since, over 40 years now (we don't still live together obviously )

I spent many years living with university aged kiwis and they are they biggest bunch of pigs around. However my still good friend from Christchurch who is in his mid 40's who I flatted with for a few years was the total opposite.
A lot of the aussies I lived with tended to be a bit easier to live with and tended to have more confidence in themselves and easier to get along with.
I also compete in a particular sport and I have found Kiwis to be much more helpful in getting me started down there than I did aussies, hence why I am competing in New Zealand. There were a lot of people that I essentially knocked on their door and they helped me out getting started.
So far of anywhere in NZ and OZ, I prefer the south island. People are usually pretty friendly there.

OI!
Are you two right?
Pair of wackers!
I've never lived with a kiwi, worked with one though, she was a few sangers short .
Lived with a lot of Australians though some of them were utter bush pigs!
Don't think you can define it along racial lines.

I think the real answer is neither as New Englanders are best (I'm now next door to Mass in NH).
