Default Whining American immigrants

I do not get a lot of, what they call themselves, professional Americans whom immigrate to NZ, these would be the ones who are in HR or other so called professional occupations.
When they arrive in NZ the whining starts, no one will employ me, kiwis are not friendly, I do not have the ability to put insulation into the house I bought, there is not twenty five different breakfast pizzas available and so on and so on.

Instead of fixing problems it seems these yanks would rather just whine, cannot buy high quality goods, so, import them.

Kiwis unfriendly, nope we are not, but we also see no reason to practice the hail fellow well meet approach of too many Americans.

I agree that people immigrating to a new place should try to fit in and not whine about what they miss from their homeland/s.

Well nzrugby, instead of whining about 'em, just ignore 'em.
Btw, your country is too cold.

There are plenty of kiwis and Aussies in the US who whine about life in the US! Even here on C-D, do some research and you will find people who have posted their "I hated living in America" diatrabe. I've also met kiwis and aussies who love living in the US. Alternatively, I've met my share of Americans who love living in New Zealand (including a close mate who moved to CChurch with her kiwi husband). There are plenty of people from the UK and various Asian countries who whinge about New Zealand; why just target yanks? Its the same for every country that accepts immigrants; some will adapt, others won't. Check out notcanada DOT com for a shocker.

Its best to just ignore them - this yank website has a function for putting people on ignore. Or start your own kiwi version of C-D and allow only kiwis access! After all why support a website put together and paid for by yank money? I'm sure you'll find pleny of kiwis who want to whinge about yanks, aussies, south africans, asians, etc. etc.

Apart from the blatant whining of the OP, everybody whines.

When I learnt Chinese, Chinese immigrants to Australia would complain that everyone was overweight, the people were too slow and the girls would let themselves go far too early. Almost every Chinese would tell me the same thing.

Over 7 years I lived and worked with hundreds of Kiwis in Vail, Colorado that came over to temporarily work in the USA. By and large they complained endlessly about the USA! Non stop too. And often they huddled in their own Kiwi cliches and never really got to know any Americans or explore America themselves and instead when not working sat in their apartments and watched the same crappy american tv shows they watch back home. No surprise they went home with the same stereotypes they came over with.

However there were many that took advantage of the experience and there are a few that ended up immigrating to the USA permanently.

So I can assure you Americans don't have the market cornered on whinging.

There is a saying "there is no place like home" and I think most people are that way. Most people will always compare something to what they know.

Like most things in life there is an upside and downside. New Zealand like any other country has both. All depends what you want to live with. Personally in my extensive experience what I found was New Zealand was great to exercise my sporting endeavors, great to visit, great to travel around and great to retire to for five months of the year. The downside is for career development and growth in a career it is limiting. There are other ups and downs with New Zealand but that's an example.

As an American visiting frequently, I just act open and normal and adjust myself to what the locals do. No big deal really and I seem to fit in fine. I think I also surprise people because their brains have been fried from our media and they have a stereotypical image of Americans in their head and when I don't fit that mold it's a surprise.

Also what is the "the hail fellow well meet approach of too many Americans"???? Don't get that.

Is it "whining" or fair & realistic comments about differences in the culture and country?

Not everyone's going to love everything about the country they move to, don't take it personally. I'm Australian and I don't like a lot of things about Oz. I've talked to many other migrants (Kiwis too) and they also have dislikes about Oz. I don't view their negative assessments as "whining", but as their own honest opinions.

And yeah, there are a lot of modcons that North Americans have had for decades that NZ & Oz don't have. You don't really notice those differences, or the level of inconvenience for you, until you live in a place for a while. Some people can adjust, others can't. We're all different.
