SYDNEY (AFP) – Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has lashed out at US comedian Robin Williams for calling Australians "rednecks", suggesting the star should look closer to home before bashing Aussies.
Rudd hit back at the Oscar-winning actor during a radio interview after Williams told US talk show host David Letterman that "Australians are basically English rednecks. You down there, 'how are ya? Good to see you. Hello.'"

Dumb move by our PM - answer an insult with another insult. Such a world traveller that he is, you'd reckon he'd pick up a bit of diplomacy along the way.
Besides, it's alright for Aussies to take the **** out of others but not suck it up when it comes our way sometimes?
Anyway, he's partly right - Williams must have visited WA and Queensland
The PM looks very silly taking offense at a comedian's commentary about Australia. Does he similarly rush to defend the UK from endless pommy jokes? I don't think so.
Our PM is just an overly sensitive schoolboy. He's the only one who's gotten into a flap about this. Everyone else, just thinks that being called "English Rednecks" is quite funny..and quite true.

He is a Comedian, spending considerable time in a foreign Country
Of coarse he is going to tell jokes about that country, it would be a pretty boring interview if he didn't
