It is so easy for the stars of the current day to overlook the contributions of past stars. It's not a new phenomenon by any stretch and it's not limited to the world of NASCAR. We see the same situation taking place with former NFL players, NBA players, MLB players, etc. We even see the same thing happening with the Movie Industry.

With all of the big money being generated by professional sports and entertainment, it seems that it would be easy for an organization to provide for the well-being of it's historical artifacts and living monuments.

Unfortunately, they are not Senators or members of the House of Representatives where there is a provision for top notch medical care and life-long financial support...

Let that be a lesson! Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be racers! Teach them to be politicians instead!

Shame on NASCAR and what's with the drivers not helping out like Jr. and Kyle did. I know most of them have their own charities, like Gordon has a hospital and all but anyone of them could peel off a $100,000 and not even miss it.

Ever watch "Cribs" where they visited NASCAR stars homes? They are living large.

Not just the drivers, what about the people who basically own NASCAR. Maybe their wallets have cob webs in them............that's why the rich get richer. Here is an interesting article about the money situation regarding Brian France...and they can't help out with the people that made NASCAR. Give me a break.

Between 2001 and 2008, Brian and Megan France got married, got divorced, got married again, and got divorced again. The divorce agreement that is currently under seal is what they signed after their second divorce. It spells out not only the money owed to Megan France but also custody terms for their young twins and provisions about their upbringing, including that they be raised in Mecklenburg County, according to filings by Megan France's lawyers.

Documents filed in support of France's appeal provided some details about the divorce agreement - information that had been sealed in Mecklenburg County.

Brian France agreed to pay Megan France a total of $9 million in "distributive" awards, as well as $32,500 a month in alimony for 10 years and $10,000 a month in child support, according to the documents.

Megan France also has accused her ex-husband of "harassing her in multiple ways," according to the documents, including hiring private investigators to follow her and violating their agreement "concerning the care of, and joint decision making for" their twins.

Why are these people any different than anyone else? How many people gave their entire careers to a company only to lose benefits to costs, closings, or cut backs?
Say what you want about today's drivers but they are certainly more savvy when planning their futures.

Why are they different? They didn't even have a chance at these benefits you speak of. They were independent contractors, not employees. And back then, the purse money wasn't hardly enough to survive on. They drove for the love of the sport. They were the pioneers. To me, that makes them worthy of recognition and deserving of a little help. Are you saying NASCAR doesn't have the resources to take care of the people who made it what it is today?

Can't argue that. But they also have a substantially larger amount of money to work with also. That's why they should help out those who led the way for them to earn this kind of money.
