As usual stupid NASCAR rules punished Earnhardt more than Truex.
Because Earnhardt is already qualified he has to start the 500 at the rear of the field because of using a backup car.
Because Truex is not yet qualified he can start the 500 based on his qualifieng race finish even though he is running a backup car.
So Earnhardt is being punished for being the pole winner and Truex is not because he has yet to qualify.
Can NASCAR look any more stupid?

I just read about this at Yahoo. I think an adjustment is needed.
IMHO, qualifying has started for ALL cars. It just hasn't finished yet. I think anyone who needs a backup car since Pole Day should have to go to the back as well.

I believe some rules are unevenly enforced for various teams, and car companies, but there is no way to "fix" the race that is 500 miles so only 1 can win unless they can somehow make every other car wreck and not take out the "chosen" winner.

Years back many NASCAR owners said that NASCAR can not insure a winner but they sure can insure who won't win.

exactly and this goes on in the NBA and NHL as well. They can't outright fix or make a certain team win but they can nudge it in a certain direction by enforcing certain rules more stringently or assigning certain refs known for calling games a certain way in a the various league and playoff series.
and of course NASCAR is famous for making up rules as they go along...hhhmmmmm

I'm not buying any of the conspiracy BS,
while this is far from my favorite race (I Hate restrictor plate). It looks like Biffle and the rest of Rausch Fenway looks strong
Lets go 16.

That is the rules and Gordon maybe in the same boat. He still has his pit advantage.Have to wander tho when they have the first two that maybe gone form their positon if changes may not need to be made. You have qualitying and then two fastest aren't there and the trailer racing. The truck race at last was very good.

That is very true!!! Like the guys that was going to run in 73 with a Pontiac that was Pontiac powered, they got bounced just before the race qualifing because "the ball joints" were wrong according to tech. They finally got approval to try to qualify, 10 minutes after qualifing was done. Funnything how the same part everyone uses was ok on all the other gm cars at that circle jerk race. Oh, that was the 73 Daytona 500 btw. Later on ed cole (head of chevy at gm and then ran the company) came over and said well that's too bad you can't beat any chevies today. Now how did he even know? Guess the hot laps when the Pontiac ran away from the car Cale Y was driving got mr ed upset?
