It did not effect the team that I was rooting for as they won the race, the Manufacturers championship and the team owners championship so I should be pretty satisfied. But I am not.
Here is my gripe. With four titles on the line the race should not come down to a six lap shootout. There was 17 laps remaining when the yellow came out and 11 more laps were run under caution. Many drivers could have changes position during green flag laps but they were not given that opportunity they were running under caution wasting passing opportunities.
IMO the last 20 laps of any race should be run under green, if a crash happens throw the red, clean up the mess and continue.
I am not accusing NASCAR of any favoritism, the driver who won the championship deserved the win but the drivers and fans also deserve to see a green flag race not a yellow flag parade.

ok, lets say nascar implements that rule where the last 20 laps are green flag laps. you say throw the red clean up then go back to racing. does that mean that if a wreck happens with 15 to go, the race resets to 20 to go? how would this work?

and then recognize that others will complain that 20 laps is an arbitrary number, so why not 25, or 30, or 15?

I think the race should end the way it should end and if that means under caution so be it. Otherwise you might as well pick an arbitrary lap number to stop the race for 10 minutes letting everyone service their car and resuming in their previous position.

i agree for the most part. i do think that the green/white/checker deal works to try and finish a race under green, but even nascar realizes that there is a limit to how many times it can be done.

Last nights race was an embarrassment.

You must have been to short track races where cautions don't count at all. You don't get many complaints about that.
Establish a number and that's it. 20,25,30 whatever.

I'm not saying it happens but NASCAR controls the cautions and they can waste as many laps as they like to adjust the outcome of a race.

Which brings up the question:
If NASCAR has all this power to determine the outcome of the races why is Jimmy Johson a 5x champion and not Dale Jr who is clearly the crowd favorite?

NASCAR does not have the power to determine who wins races but they do have the power to determine who doesn't win races.

Jr may be the fan favorite but who knows if he is NASCAR's favorite.

NASCAR might have a lot of tricks but making JR a champion is not one of them. And I like JR.

I don't believe they acted last night to affect the championship, but it was very unprofessional as to how they handled that entire caution period. I am sorry I wasted my time watching the race as it was obvious that the delays affected momentum of several drivers (gaining and losing spots and progress).

Face it; JJ is a very talented racer that is part of a great team. Not my favorite driver but I do not deny his talent as part of the best team going. People like Scrub can wheel a car but it takes a lot more than just that to continuously have the results JJ has.
