Jeff left the door open to run a few races as part time.

However, I get the impression that Chase will slide into the 24 next year. Even if Jeff runs a few races, he may have to pilot another number anyway, as he is going to need a ride from another team. Hendrick is maxed out at 4 cars, and can only run Chase as a fifth car limited this year due to his rookie status.

Some rumors seem to point to Jeff driving a Jr Motorsports owned car part time, which would be more or less a satellite Hendrick team anyway... but whether RH would want to let go of control of the number 24 for this is anybody's guess.

I'm not sure if Jeff has to drive for another team in his "occasional" races. Chase is driving for HMS a few races in the Cup Series this year in the 25.

The 43 and the 3 have not been retired. I doubt if the 24 will, but if Jeff is going to drive a few races over the next couple of years, then he should drive the 24.

So is it confirmed that NAPA will be the primary sponsor for Chase is 2016? If so, what about Dupont?

HMS cannot field a 5th car. Nascar rules restrict an owner to 4, with a provision to allow a 5th if it is a rookie driver. Also seems certain now Chase is taking over the 24. Something has to give.

No it is not confirmed. HMS will announce the sponsorship down the road. I would think 3M will be around for some, they signed on for 3 years through 2017. Not sure Drive to End Hunger will stick with such a young kid. Axalta (Dupont) would likely want to still have some presence. There would be room for more primary sponsors.

HMS said the # 24 would not be retired however, a recent side blurb from RPM said they are not attached to the # 9 and Chase could have it if he wants- next year. While Chase will be getting Gordon's team in 2016 I expect the car will be adorned with the # 9.

Funny how numbers seem to be more important to drivers then even car brand. The 43 has been on every brand owned by Petty.
The "Holy Grail" of numbers #3 has been associated with many drivers over the years but none more than the Earnhardts.

I don't care what number Gordon drives and when he joins club DW nobody else will either.

Considering Chase had 9 in Nationwide, i suspect he would also want it in Cup.. nice gesture from Richard, showing why he is still the KING! Teresa should take notes.
