If we're counting from the time I was born it's a toss-up. Could be Petty, Yarborough, DW, Earnhardt, or Bobby Allison.

If we're counting from the time I started watching NASCAR (1987), it's gotta be Earnhardt.

Lagano has taken some time to get adjusted but he certainly showed in lower classes that he is very skilled as he dominate in them. he is one of the driver known to be very good at setup a car also. He was the next Jeff Gordon when he came to nationwide. I think he is now on a team that is showing his skills. Like Gordon; Johnson and Harvick; he is a very technically smart driver and you will notice spotters keeping track of his line on track to relay to their driver.

Dale Earnhardt Senior, by all means. Best Driver, Best showmanship, and plenty of action. He is the symbol of NASCAR and an American Icon. Others may have contributed a it but he is a class called "Legends" of NASCAR, and few will achieve that.

Funny how one driver can be the fan favorite and also most hated at the same time.

I was not a fan of Dale Sr.. I loved it when Gordon came along and started consistently beating him. Of course, i certainly had a ton of respect him and am now the biggest Jr fan around. Well, maybe not the biggest but i do love Dale Jr!

Sr would do anything to win a race including wrecking his competitors... Jr will do almost anything NOT to wreck his competitors, including losing a race... sometimes i wish Jr had that fire in him to win like his dad did but Jr simply doesn't have to win like his dad did. Sr was racing to put food on the table, especially early in his career whereas Jr will never want for money the rest of his life...

^^Exactly. Second gen drivers biggest problem is comfort. They don't need to win. They like to win but the hunger will never be the same.

I'd say Jeff Gordon.

Dale E owned NASCAR at the time, and then out of nowhere comes this "peach-fuzz" kid who beat Dale E every week!

We'll probably never see anything like that again.
