OK so the Chase for the Cup is not going away so forget about going back to how it was.

So to make things fair for all teams once you are eliminated from the chase the best you can finish the season is 17th. The Chasers are the top 16 teams.

Both the chasers and the non chasers get their own set of points moving forward so the lowest a chaser can finish is 16th (remember this is a playoff inside the regular season)

After a race the chasers are awarded points based in where they finish among the chase group, the same for the non chasers.
What will this accomplish? The possibility of any chasers being eliminated by non chasers (this could happen)

All the rules of today still applies, get a win and you advance. Be in the bottom four of the chasers and your eliminated.

So in last weeks race, Kes, finished 6th, Bush 7th, Logano 8th in Chase standing. As far as the race is concerned they finished where they finished.

This gives no advantage to anybody, even if you take out the leader the worst he can finish is last in whichever group he might be in.

Had these rules been in place Kenseth might still be in the chase even though Logano took him out..

I just want the rules to be fair for everybody.

Last rule change if you purposely take somebody out you sit for five races.

If they have to have the chase, then separate points is the way it should have been set up in the first place. I can buy off on that.

As far as suspensions for intentional take-outs. Its hard to judge intent. You have obvious situations like Martinsville, but then you have cases where two guys seem to always find each other on the track. Stuff happens and there may or may not have been intent.

^^well these guys, and the commentators, claim they have incredible car control - until they take someone out suspiciously. It's usually fairly obvious what's up. Guys let the car drift up a bit or turn before their marks and take people out. Because these guys do have incredible car control and know how to make it look good for the camera. You take someone out, you place behind them.

As to points, only chasers should even get points once it starts. Non-chasers can win, place, or show but that's it. I know it's a money deal so teams want points - so make the system so they get the money for places but not the actual points.

PDD, i am going to make one change to your idea, and that is take out the win and your in deal. that way if you win the first race of the chase series, you still have to run high enough in the points to get in to the next round. and if along the way you take someone out, you get set down for a race, and essentially your chase is over, assuming the offense was intentional.

i am a bit iffy on a dual point system, but it is workable.

A points race inside a points race. Nice
So in round one a win and three DNFs would mean you're out.

well two DNFs since they are three race rounds, but yes that is the gist of the idea.

NASCAR is a lot smarter than we are and could have prevented this a long time ago. Brian France seemed to approve of Logano taking out Kenseth and with his history of liking pack racing I don't think much will get done.

The "win and your in" is the problem. It's either going to be a points chase or a win chase can't have it both ways.

Why don't they just add a fifth car to the finals at Homestead (Kenseth) it's not like they haven't done that before (Gordon).

this is correct. take out the win and in the next round, and a lot of the problems go away. and i like the idea of the chasers having their own points system as well. for instance keep the one point per position, but with sixteen chasers, even if you finish say 40th, you get sixteenth place points. the only time you get bonus points is leading a lap, leading the most laps and winning. that would make for even more excitement for the average fans.
