[quote=USNRET04;44937311]Really can't compare NFL to NASCAR.
  • The NFL only has 16 regular season games.
  • There are more NFL fans than NASCAR fans
  • Fans often turn out even for a losing season (or a poor product on the field)
  • Stadiums have a smaller seating capacity. (Indy could hold 235-400k)
  • Most of NASCAR races are during nicer weather...people have a lot of recreational choices
[/QUOTE

Agree, with NFL have fans of either home team or visiting team.

In NASCAR you have 50% JR fans and 50% divided among the 39 other drivers.

Honestly.. There's probably few of us alive that remember it being the Grand National series.. I will say that I had a VERY longtime subscription to Grand National Scene magazine (Later Winston Cup Scene, then NASCAR Winston Cup Scene and finally NASCAR Scene).. It was an adjustment when they changed it to Winston Cup Scene.. Which didn't happen until the late 90's, I think.

Wow.. It was only 6 years ago that stopped being published.. I think that's really when my interest in Cup racing started to wane as well.. That was a true loss when it ceased publication.

That and the loss of Inside Winston Cup on Speed with the original panel.. Bestwick, Schrader, Waltrip and Benson with Herman filling in from time to time.
actually the original name of the top nascar series was grand national winston cup. the junior series was called late model sportsman. most fans called the top series winston cup, dropping the grand national part, so nascar decided to change the name of the top series to winston cup, and the junior series busch grand national, when anheiser-busch sponsored the junior series.

Going back even further the first name of NASCAR late model was Grand National before Winston Cup was added.
The lower series was Sportsman.

I know I am old I saw my first NASCAR Grand National in 1956 at Longhorn PA on the one mile dirt circle.
Curtis Turner, Lee Petty etc. etc.

Red flagged for fog. And it looks like more rain is coming. I think Buescher wins, IMO.
