It's worth noting that a lot of years Johnson had a sizeable lead and just had to play it safe. Usually a 10th-20th place finish would give him the championship. If the championship was closer in those years maybe he goes for the win and gets it done.

JJ does not seem to be a fan of HMS's having been teamed up with SHR.

''We would always like to have some people running our engines and trying to do durability stuff on new motors that are coming out. I would imagine having a couple of cars out there we will always have that,'' Johnson said, ''but a team at that high of caliber again? I believe we would look really hard before we made that decision again.''

Sounds like what Jimmie wants.. A team that gets their stuff, but isn't that good, basically an R&D team. They already have that. It's called HScott.

I'd say the problem, according to Jimmie, is that SHR is a 4 car team with 2 championship contenders.

Speaking of SHR, we visited the shop a few months ago. Drive in the parking lot, walk in the visitor area, and stay as long as you like.
The F1 shop has been built since our last visit a few years ago- you're greeted by a gate that says you're not visiting anything. lol

Absolutely, even at Hendricks it's always been sketchy about sharing info, or so the rumors go. So why add more drivers to get in the way? JJ isn't wrong there.

Gibbs seems to be making it work.

Now, they did have to fail at it first. Remember that Bobby and Tony had such wildly different driving styles and what they wanted so far as feel from a car, it was more like running two single car teams.. Remember Penske had the same problem with Rusty Wallace and Ryan Newman.

Gibbs also fell flat with the first attempt at a satellite team, with Hall of Fame Racing. Though, I think there were more problems there than the partnership with Gibbs.. Aikman and Staubach were gone by that time.. That team was Furniture Row before Furniture Row. They were building the base for success, but they never turned the corner.

The Gibbs partnership with Furniture Row seems to be paying off.. Surprisingly.. I'm astounded that a team based in Denver, CO is able to do what they are doing.

I didn't know that HScott had moved out of Spartanburg.. https://goo.gl/maps/gtJcNzDfD5z

That building used to be their shop.. before that it was Buckshot Racing.
