I don't fully know if Baldwin will be leaving the sport. It sounds like he may just strip down to the basics and build his team back up again without a charter.. Work hard enough to earn a charter again, and then sell it again.

Because, as I understand, every 3 years, they basically re-examine the charters and may reassign them.

Here's the rule:

Charter teams are held to a minimum performance standard. If a Charter team finishes in the bottom three of the owner standings among all 36 Charter teams for three consecutive years, NASCAR has a right to remove the charter

Lot of interpretation possible there. So, I have a charter, I finish bottom 3 for 2 years, sell it to you, you finish bottom three.. Is that three years?

Danica finishes bottom 3 for 2 years in a row, so SHR says "That charter is now with the 4 team" which would likely not finish bottom three..

I have a charter, bottom three for 2 years, I merge with your team to create a new team..

Let's say that it all boils down to Rule #1.. Don't **** off NASCAR.

I expected the place to be packed with visitors but there was only two other visitors. I asked the receptionist why the parking lot was so full. She said we have 450 employees.

This is why the small teams can't compete any longer.

The good ole' days are gone and never coming back.
I used to think loosening up some of the rules of parity may help cut costs because in NASCAR's quest for parity all they really did was drive up the importance of R&D which drove up costs. I don't think there's any turning back.

Anyone but Lagano

I'm fine with any of these guys winning. I'm not really a JJ fan but seeing a 7th championship would be cool. That will never happen again.

I am happy with Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty being in a class all their own. To my way of thinking they do not need JJ in there.
