I'm thinking the driver is going to be Almirola. Smithfield seems to like him and the fact that the deal with Petty apparently came apart once they said they're replace Almirola with Bubba Wallace.. Indicates that Almirola has already said he's leaving.
And, I recall some rumors that Almirola was trying to take Smithfield with him.
Bad situation for the King.. Now, if he and a minority driver (A pretty dang good minority driver, IMO) can't get a sponsor..
Of course.. Almirola was part of the Drive for Diversity program back in the day as well.
Danica Patrick is yet to win a race in in the Monster Energy Cup Series. She did not produce for Stewart-Haas Racing, and they are parting ways. She will find a team if one is in desperate need of a driver.

Petty is unfortunately a dinosaur in a sport where technology and innovation comes at a huge price tag and teams with an endless supply of money are going to continue to survive.
No disrespect to the Pettys, but it must be hard to justify continuing when the financial responsibilities of NASCAR can bleed you dry. In a sport the king has put his heart and soul into, it has now become a corporate conglomerate of survival of the fittest.
Silly season is officially open. haha The smithfield stuff sounds pretty shady.
