dont forget that arris was a sponsor on suarez car in xfinity, so i doubt much changes. and its possible that suarez also becomes a spokesman for subway. this is the ride that gibbs has been grooming the kid for.

Hypothetical - Had EJ not signed with Furniture Row, would Gibbs had put him in the 19? I have nothing against Suarez, just dont think hes ready for a full time ride yet in Cup. I see him as a "seat filler" until something better comes along for him or Gibbs.

I don't think there's any question that Jones would have gotten the ride. But.. I don't think Suarez is a seat filler. I agree that it's about a year too early. I'd prefer to see him have another full year in Xfinity, but.. I figure he's got 4 years in the ride unless he's just Leffler-bad.

You get a situation where he's barely in or out of the top 35.. He could be replaced, but he'd have to be that bad for that to happen in the next 3-4 years.

Leffler-bad, thats funny. I guess seat filler was the wrong term. The thing to remember though, is the 19 car was just a test car basically, until Carl got in it. If, and thats a big if times get tight, the 19 could disappear and go back to a testing program, so Suarez is out? I would think though Gibbs would wise up and dump Hamlin. Again, hypothetical.

At one time the 20 was a test car, and the 11 as well.

They were technically the 80 team I think and if I recall, Mike Bliss drove it some.

But the plan has always been for expansion to 4 teams for JGR.. They just took a while to get there. And based on their results, it seems the plan was pretty good.

92-98 they were a single car team
99-04 they were a two car team
05-13 three cars
14-current four cars.

Contraction, if it happens, and it certainly could.. Just look at Roush.. Would be sponsor driven, or lack of sponsor driven. I think M&M/Mars is set for a while on the 18. The 20 is mildly shaky. They have DeWalt back with Kenseth, but I'm pretty sure they go if Kenseth goes. The 11.. I've kinda wondered how long FedEx would stay since UPS has left. There'll either be a renewal announcement before May-ish or a departure announcement from them.

The 19, as I said before.. I don't think Arris returns. But I think Gibbs will pick up a new-to-the-sport sponsor to tie to Suarez.

Kenseth only has 3-4 years left most likely. Suarez is 25, Busch is 31 and Hamlin is 36. Kenseth is 44

Before this, I thought Kenseth would be out after this year to make room for Suarez. But, now with the partnership with FRR and Edwards leaving, he might hang out for another 3-4 years

Edwards is in good company retiring so young.

Junior Johnson retired from driving at 35 and Ned Jarrett at 33.

I think Lebonte18 mentioned in another thread that perhaps Carl retired after learning about the new points system.. doubt it.. but wouldn't that be a hoot..

Senator Carl Edwards won't get in as much trouble as Senator John Edwards did.
