I get what you're saying, in a way I miss the old days of Bristol as well, but all in all, I enjoy the racing there more now because you can actually race.
Agree with all that you said there.

I think the lack of butts in the seats would concur with my diagnosis.

You used to have to wait years to get Bristol tix. Since the reconfiguration, you can walk up during the anthem and buy seats.

Obviously the popularity of NASCAR has waned the past few years but i think hardcore fans are always gonna be there. I think the new CHASE format adds a level of excitement to the end of season races. I watch most of the early season races and tend to fall off some in the summer months. I keep up but don't watch many of the races but towards the end of the season, once the Chase kicks in i am tuned back in. Last years final 3 races were fantastic and this years look to be the same. Yesterdays race was great.. hated to see Chase get turned late like that but understood Hamlin's reasoning... Karma got him as well.
I can't wait for next week and the finale at HOmestead.. should be exciting.

They've removed seats at basically every track and I don't think there's been a sellout anywhere in years. So.. Is attendance down at Daytona because they changed Bristol?

I think attendance is down at Daytona because tix are expensive.. at least compared to other tracks. I have been to Daytona (FEB) the last 5 years and attendance has always been very high.. sell out. nope but darn close.. I am fairly certain that the Daytona 500 is annually the highest attended race of the NASCAR season but as the season drags on, other things tend to pull viewers and fans away... Is the season too long? maybe... are there too many cars that have zero chance of winning in every race.. maybe... I for one am for a 30 for 30 type of season. 30 cars, 30 races.. IMO, that would help... I also wish Xfinity had LESS cup drivers.... that series is not much fun to watch with Kyle Bush leading every freaking lap. I like Kyle but don't care to see him dominate in a lesser division.. i know why they are there.. but still don't care for it much.

I totally agree with the part about Xfinity.. But, they are taking steps to correct that.. Remember, that has been going on for YEARS.. The term "Buschwhackers" was coined back in the day to describe the cup drivers moonlighting. Back then it was Mark Martin who was winning all the races. Well, except for the one where he came to victory lane a lap too soon. So many people have forgotten about that. One of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history making such a total boneheaded move.

I haven't been to a race period since about 2010. I went to a truck race at Iowa and thoroughly enjoyed it. prior to that, I think it was Martinsville in '05.. Before that, I went to Charlotte every year for The Winston. Sprinkled in was going to Kansas and Atlanta and Bristol and a few others. but.. I have little to no interest in going to a race anymore. The only races I enjoy watching on TV are road courses and plate races.

Refresh my memory, was there ever a years long waiting list for Daytona tix?

The only reason why Daytona is selling out is because they removed 40% of the seats.

Was that a Cup Race or BGN? It was amazing and made him look really foolish. Thanks for bringing it up. It is a classic.
