bradk won the race yesterday, with his teammate joey logano running second. larson, harvick and elliot round out the top five.

as to the chase, it seems only jimmy johnson and alex bowman have yet to secure a playoff spot.

Man if there were a "Brickyard 400 Marquee Event" drinking game I'd be in the hospital with alcohol poisoning. The NBC crew pumped the living hell outta that lame-assed race. Moving it to the last event in the "regular season" is the latest in a long line of gimmicks to try to revive interest in a race that died over a decade ago. The sooner they drop Indy off the schedule, the better.

I agree, the Brickyard does not provide good stock car racing on that flat track. It was cool back in the 90's since it was something new. But NASCAR needs more exciting tracks, not boring tracks.

I think it's just Bowman. eh.. ok... So, technically you're right.

Johnson is 19 points ahead of Bowman.. So, if Bowman beat Johnson by more than 19 positions (Or a combination that equaled 19 points) AND there were a first time winner.. Johnson would be out.

But.. Honestly.. Johnson is pretty locked in.

And.. News just broke that FRR is shutting down.

Furniture Row Racing to shut down after 2018 season

Vissar must just be tired of it.. He financed the team himself for years before 5 hour energy came on board.

Default Truex in the #19 for 2019

Following Tuesday's announcement that Furniture Row Racing would shut down at the end of the 2018 season, Motorsport.com is reporting that Martin Truex, Jr. and crew chief Cole Pearn have agreed to move to Joe Gibbs Racing next season with sponsor Bass Pro Shops. Truex would replace Daniel Suarez in the #19.

The FRR announcement is sad but not surprising. Costs are way up (and continuing to rise), and sponsorship dollars are way down. It's an unsustainable path that will eventually push out most, if not all, of the smaller teams.

On the current trajectory my guess is most fields will be under 30 cars within a decade.

i am not saying johnson is in trouble here, but he is still on the bubble, though you are right bowman has more to lose than johnson does at this point.

Yeah, I'm with you.. I was just thinking that it sounded wrong because I recalled Johnson being like 90 points ahead of 17th place in the points.. I just didn't realize that he was so close to Bowman in the points that if the stars aligned just right, he'd be on the outs.

He's still the only person to be a part of every chase.

Additional little trivia.. Only one driver can lay claim to being a Winston Cup, Nextel Cup and Sprint Cup Champion.. Tony Stewart.
