That was less boring than Canada and Monaco, but not by a lot. I am not a huge fan of watching racing carnage. All those cascade elements on the wings - the front wings specifically - need to go, all they seem to do is spread tire-puncturing debris all over the track.

Brundle was amusingly cranky about the chicane - "second left, third right"

I really enjoy Brundle. He's very good. The race was okay. That first lap was nuts as usual. Vettel and Bottas ripping through the field was cool to watch but damning on the lack of competitive cars in the field. Alonso has to be well and truly over McLaren. What a freaking mess that team is. Even the paint scheme is fairly awful.

It is good that France has a race again. Makes no sense not to have a French Grand Prix.

Lol, Alonso finished 16th, well out of the points in the French F1 race, after complaining on the radio that he had no power, no brakes and no tires left and didn't understand why they were keeping him out there.

His team finished first at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He is a great driver and why he has stuck it out this long, I have no idea.

Also, check out this long article about F1 in general (by someone who has a bit of a tech/manufacturing background, if not much history following F1)

Mia Sharizman, director of the Renault Sport Academy, which identifies and recruits promising young drivers from age 15 onward, told me that kids have to start their karting careers as young as seven, and each season can cost between €50,000 and €75,000.
€75,000x8 years = €600,000 = about $700,000 in USD. And then you are done with karting and stepping into the lowest Formula where you are also paying $$$$, and if you do well you attract sponsors and try to buy yourself an F1 seat. Ouch.
