alan did it his way. kudos brother. about two seasons before he won his championship, he was offered a full time ride with junior johnson, alan ultimately turned him down but said that if someone like junior had made that offer just a couple of seasons before, he likely would have jumped at the offer.

the man was always thinking a couple of steps ahead. the race in phoenix where he and bill elliot were pushing each other, he calculated that if he led the most laps for that race even if he lost the race he would win the championship. he finished second to elliot in the race.

I was there and it was one of the best races ever! A nail biter right to the checkers.

Kulwicki won the Cup by being able to see the forest through the trees as written above. And, it really could have been one of several drivers including Davey and Elliott.

It was Gordon's first Cup race and the King's last race.

What a great day...

Wasn't it Ernie Irvan that wound up taking out Allison? And basically the next year, he would wind up taking over Davey's car?

Been a long time since I've watched this race.. But there were just so many things connected to it and in it.

Yes it was Swervin' Irvan... Ironic how things work out.

That was horrible about Davey's accident and also about Irvan having his wreck a few years later. Both of those guys could wheel a car!

How the heck did you miss me? I was in the Weaver grandstand, just like always back then! White guy, 6 foot, about 250 then. Probably holding a beer. Shouldn't have been able to miss me!
