Daytona is famous for two things (well three if you include the beach), Race Week and Bike Week...
I used to work in a job where I spoke with FBI agents, one of them was based in Daytona, he said I wouldn't believe the things that went on there AND that he felt the Race Week people were alot worse then the Bike week people...
I have had people who grew up here their whole lives say the same thing...
NASCAR drivers pull up to 3 G's, and it's not due to downforce generated by the car so much as the high banking on certain tracks. One of the reasons restrictor plates came into use was to cut down on G forces as cars got faster and faster. Even if you think they are the least talented drivers, they are still incredibly talented and it still takes a lot of athletic ability to do what they do.
Very true, I definitely consider them more talented than basketball or baseball players, but WRC, Indy, F1, LeMans, drivers have them outclassed. Thats what I meant to say.
Yep...my dad got me interested in it years ago...he took us to a few dirt track races...and a friend raced for ARCA, which in turn got us pit seats at the races!
I'd rather go to the races than watch it on TV...TV=boring...being around the garage was a cool people watcher spot!
I even got hooked on a online Nascar League...that's more for fun.
BIG Nascar fan here! Lifelong. Which is rare when you grow up on the Jersey shore. Been to 3 Daytona 500's, Races at Charlotte, Dover every year.. GREAT sport. If you're not a NASCAR Fan.. just go to Daytona or watch Daytona on TV.. your opinion usually can change quickly. If nothing else.. your eyes open up.
I'm sure it's fun to do but I just haven't got the patience to watch guys drive in ovals for 500 miles.
