Is this the new racing of today???????????
Field fillers will take their place with some concern there will be “start and park” teams that show up with racecars just for the payout — parking quickly rather than completing races. We know it's happening now we have to sit and watch!! This is most definately not the racing I remember in years past!!! Yes, there were a few but nothing like today!!

When they sink as low as the Indy Racing League, I'll quit watching. They let anyone on the track. If I had a check I'd be in a car.

The race teams that only go to the races to "start" the race only to have some kind of "problem" in the first few laps so they pull the car out of the race but still collect the money for starting. There are several of these guys this year---only there to collect the start money not there for the race.

I can't imagine anyone doing this in hopes of becoming profitable. People seem to not realize the costs associated with a racing team. If you put a team together and simply "started races" to collect the start money every week, you would go bankrupt.

I am not saying the Daytona race--to much prestige for that there. In the truck race there are 8 trucks doing this regularly and there are some in the cup cars although I will not mention names. Even this article mentions it....
And yes, it is quite profitable actually. Look at how much a car gets just to start the race. Compare that to where the different cars/trucks placed and their pay. You don't need to pay for a crew, tires or repairs. Many don't even have a sponser!

I will add that the last two years it has not happened that often in the cup cars but it does happen.

Ok--last year if you started every race and parked the car after a few laps, by the end of the year your winnings would have been somewhere around 2 milliion eight hundred thousand dollars and this year it would of course be more! Read all about it at Jayski's silly season online! Great information there. The particular story that tells this all is: Jayski's Silly Season....Gunselman, Bodine's Start New Cup Team. Pretty interesting reading!

The COT is a huge advantage for the S&P teams. Instead of needing 5-6 different cars, you just need one. Plus this year, the fields have been just long enough to where it's not hard to make the races.

Wasn't it one year when Bill Elliott didn't even have a freaking pit crew? He did a few laps and parked it.
