I am very glad that the cars are safer, it's sad that we lost Dale and Adam Petty who both may be allive had they been wearing the Hans device.
But I must say, let them scrap a bit and don't take points away.
I know this isn't race related but the most exciting baseball game I went to was when the pitcher on the opposing team kept hitting this one player each time he was up to bat. Next thing you know everyone runs out from the dugout and it's ON!

I definaely do not care to see anyone badly hurt or killed. That isn't the excitement I love!! I do miss the little scuffs and arguments between the guys! I do enjoy those "bad-boys"!! I am not fond of the jump-suits either---they do look a bit like a walking commercial! But the suits are also a safety thing--if they could just lose all the junk/cartoons on them! And yes, no one loses when racing in NASCAR cup as far as making the money goes. Even when you don't finish the race you win! If a guy races one year in NASCAR cup they can easily retire--and have! Hmmmm, I think I really made a mistake telling my kids to go to college when now I believe they should have become race car drivers!!

Back in the day you could be hopeful that you would see a terrible crash, and now even if they crash they rarely flip and most times the cars are still drivable. F1 Competitiveness? Which 1 race was that in? All I ever seen them do was line up nose to tail behind the leader. I think the most competitive racing is done on local dirt tracks and grudge races at the drag strip!

Hit him again! a right hook, a left undercut.... Any one remember Cale Y. going at it with who(?) the first time Daytona was on tv at the end of the race. Yes, it's trivia Nascar time! Now that was showing some competitiveness!

I told my dh if he would watch American Idol with me two nights a week, I would watch Nascar with him on Sunday. I think I got the bad end of the deal. I didn't realize it was so dang long! I wonder if posting here on CD in the nascar forum will count for some time instead of watching the whole thing.

Let them go back to being actual stock cars. Some of the old rules should be brought back, especially the rule about the engine being a dealership production engine that's actually found in factory cars. The drivers and crew can gut the interior to reduce weight, add in safety devices like roll cages, remove things like AC and power steering, and modify the engine without adding a turbo or supercharger. The advantage of this for the car makers was endurance test of their vehicles they could never truly do on their own. Drivers and mechanics can give feedback to the engineers and corrections made to the product line. If an Impala won, it was nearly the same impala that's in the dealership. Might as well watch F1 racing instead. At least there's a right turn in there somewhere.

I think when the production cars got so crappy they couldn't use the bodies on them anymore and make anything remotely safe for drivers is when they went full custom built cars. Of course a wrong wheel drive car (liie the new cars at the dealer are)at those speeds would be a death a week on the track!

LOL, yeah, you'll be putting some time in. If you really want to learn about the sport go to the bookstore and pick up NASCAR for Dummies. Now you have something ligitamate to read during the race!
I knew I had it bad when I started using the terms when I drove, I remember driving one day on a two lane road and when you went through the signal it changed to 3 lanes, I asked DH "are we going 3 wide"? We started laughing so hard.
