I didn't take auto shop in HS, almost did, but our auto shop teacher was Gary Densham. I actually got to meet him again last Sept at Charlotte Z-Max. Also, before moving to Charlotte I lived in Force territory in CA. He had great car shows once a month at his shop, I miss those.

Yes, I really should have. But of course in HS my thought then was the cute boys. I did have a class out by the auto shop area and did say hello to him a few times. He was really nice and had a good reputation with the kids. When I met him at Z-max he autographed a photo for me and I got to take a photo with him so that was pretty cool. He said wherever he races at he has a former student come up and say hello.

This would be considered combat. A sport that derived from combat is Paintball.
A high speed police pursuit is just that, a pursuit. Back in the old days before NASCAR, the pursuit involved the authorities chasing the bootleggers. This was the foundation of what later became stock car racing (a sport).

Unless of course a sanctioning body organizes a tour and dates with pilots competing for points & prizes money and fans buying tickets.

No offense taken, we're all entitled to our definitions, but I think auto-racing is a sport.
This is an old argument that will never have a definite answer. It's usually started by people who think it's just a bunch of cars turning left, without even trying to learn the particulars.
But why would you compare auto-racing to hunting? One has nothing to do with the other.
