zMAX Dragway to Host Two NHRA Events in 2010

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Drag racing fans will get a double shot of nitro at zMAX Dragway in 2010 as the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series returns for two dates at the Bellagio of drag strips.
Speedway Motorsports, Inc. officials announced today that the premier drag racing facility will host two NHRA events next year. The first will be held March 25-28 and the third annual NHRA Carolinas Nationals is scheduled for Sept. 16-19. The addition of a second date makes zMAX Dragway one of only three drag strips to host two NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series events.

I've never been to a NHRA type event. I wouldn't mind going to zMAX because they have four lanes and can run events faster.

When we went to inaugural NHRA race last year they only used 2 lanes. We're going again in a few weeks. It's addicting and more fun than Na$car. It's what Na$car used to be.

This just in!! I can't wait to see this!

In addition to exciting drag racing action, witness history in the making on Sunday, Sept. 20, when NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars race four-wide down zMAX Dragway! For the first time, four NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and four NHRA Funny Cars will reach speeds over 300 mph in special exhibition races before the final round of the NHRA Carolinas Nationals

If you can take the day off Fri the gates open at 8 am. Here is where they post the schedule. NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Schedule If you have never been to an NHRA event here are a few things I think you will like about it. Complete access to the pits, drivers and crews. Two cars with the about same horsepower as the first 10 rows of a NASCAR race. Fri is qualifying, nobody is prequalified. If you are not one of the 16 quickest cars this week you don't race on Sunday. Qualifying is as exciting as the race, particularly if you don't anyone enough to root for him/her. Note gates open at 8am they secure the track at 8:30 pm. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk a lot. If you are an autograph collector you will have a field day. Listen to what Luvsdabeach said about ear plugs it is not possible to explain the noise that an 8000 hp nitro burning engine makes. While on the subject of nitro. It will burn your eyes and nose but no longer than you are exposed it is not harmful. The smell, however, is addictive. I've been hooked since 1967. Have a good time.

When you are in the pit area and see the crew put on masks, clear the area. They are getting ready to kick the nitro and it will burn your eyes and lungs. It's fun to watch the people scatter. lol

NHRA is totally addicting!

We went to the inaugural weekend last year. Had $10 tickets through some promotion. It was ok. Nothing I'd pay more than $10 to go back to again.

Hard to believe my two older brothers lived and breathed NHRA growing up and I always embraced stock cars. I think my favorite racing is still the Whelen Modifieds. They've got the excitement that NASCAR premier series no longer have.

And not healthy inhaling those fumes without a respirator.
