I thought this was RACING
From Nascar.com:
"During Sunday's Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway, it was reported that officials told Brad Keselowski to not race so aggressively with the Chase drivers early in the race.
NASCAR has issued plenty of "rough-driving" warnings, but to tell a top-five car not to race hard because he was surrounded by drivers in the playoffs, appears to be rare event."
WTF?? Makes one wonder when (or if) Nascar wants drivers to be aggressive. Is it acceptable to race hard with 50 to go? How about 20 to go? It seems like they're basically wanting everyone to stay in line and do parade laps. If they only want hard racing for half the race then they should just make the races half as long.

You know, I didn't catch that....I don't agree with it that's for sure.
All I can say is that since Brad is a "rookie" they were giving him a warning. Still don't agree with it though.
Just like that pansy Tom Brady who had the official call a flag as a defender blew air on Tom's leg.
Got to let the players play football, and the racers race.

Aren't you the one who told me to cut whiny Jr. some slack? Brady didn't make the rules, but he knows the rules. The only reason Thuggs "blew air on Tom's leg" is because he saw him coming and was able to jump out of the way. If his feet had been planted it would've been trouble.
Way off topic, but I agree with the rest of your post. Let the racers race!!!

While I am an avid NASCAR fan they tend to display strange conduct when it comes to the chosen ones. A friend made an asinine suggestion once that when the chase begins there should be two races; one race for those in the chase, another for those who are not. Seems fitting for this situation.
Also tech director John Darby met with Hendrick engineers regarding how close to spec the bodies are on the #5 & #48. He stated that he didn't want the championship decided by a penalty. HMS obviously knew how close to tolerence these cars were; pushing the limits of the rules is what car builders do. If they cross the line, too bad.
I wonder if, say, the Red Bull team would garnish such favorable treatment in the same situation.

This is the kind of math that I expect from a NASCAR fan.

This is the kind of post that I expect from arrogant know-it-alls. I understand that if the races were half as long and they still wanted racing for half the race you would still have a boring half of the race. I get it. I got it when I wrote it the first time, just trying to make a point. Didn't expect that MENSA was going to be trolling and showing off their superior intellect by doing simple math. You're a genius and we all Nascar folk are just dumb. By the way Chucky, should I have put an apostrophe between the L and the S in know-it-alls?

I'm not 100% sure if it was me that said Jr should get some slack, I didn't look back at the posts. Not sure what I was referring to there, because in some of my posts I've said Jr should be doing much better in HMS equipment.
As for Brady, most sports analysts believe that Brady and most QB's get special treatment.
WFW&P: There are basically two races within each "Chase" race. The chase drivers obviously and the other 31 drivers. The other drivers are A: Trying to win the race, B: Trying to improve their points standing to get to be the 13th driver in points for a million dollar bonus and to be in the top 35 in points so they are guaranteed a spot in the first 10 races of 2010 no matter how poorly they qualify.

Racing takes a backseat to entertainment/marketing at NASCAR, if you want to see real racing, watch MotoGP.

I use to never miss a race. Now I can hardly watch it. Seems like when they switched to the new cars, everything got real boring and fast.
What I do now is just watch Nascar Now on ESPN2. In 30 minutes time, I can see all the hi-lites/drama.

The object of every driver on the track should be to WIN or finish in the best position his car and driving ability will allow him to achieve.
I can see Nascar doing something about drivers intentionaly wrecking others to gain spots.
BUT LET THEM RACE.
Nascar has become too sanitized to be interesting anymore.
I don't like the Chase format. Why should a driver not in the Chase give way to someone who is?
Every driver has an obligation and desire to finish as best he can. You don't back off because you ain't in the "Chase". If a driver is laps down or has a car that isn't competitive then get out of the way. Other than that, go for all you can get.
Throw out the Chase format. Take off the damn restrictor plates at Daytona and Talledega.
Let the driver with the most ability to control a fast car do his thing.
I hate watching "fuel economy runs" like we have seen too much of this year. Put the bigger tanks back on like they used to have.
The safety innovations disigned in the last few years have made higher speeds possible without the danger to drivers and spectators that were inherent a decade ago. Let them run. There is still danger but that is with any competitive sport that involves speed or human contact.
Another thing I don't like is the top 35 quaranteed qualifying rule. I don't care if the driver is first in points. If he screws up qualifying and doesn't make the top 43, he don't race that week.
I've been an avid Nascar fanatic since about 1979. Now I'm just barely a fan.
Nascar is ruining the sport by catering to big money teams and sponsers and blessing the blessed with more rules and regulations to promote the elite.
I'm just about ready to quit watching my favorite sport.
Nascar wants control of a bunch of choir boys in the cars instead of letting drivers Race.
It's a damn stock car race. Let them all race and not be obligated to back off if a big name chase driver comes in the area.
As far as the #5 and #48 car being warned, they were within specs. I don't care if they were only within .001 of the allowed specs. If they were in the box, it shouldn't have been an issue.
Just another example of Nascar overstepping to gain media attention.
Next thing you know, it will be illegal for drivers to let a fart that lasts more than .05 seconds. If it lasts for .049 seconds you get warned.
Oh well, that's my rant. Nascar ain't nothing like it used to be. And it's a shame that such a good sport is being destroyed by big money, sponsors, and the inability of Nascar to realize that fact.
