Default How to fix/ improve NASCAR?

I've seen a lot of comments about how NASCAR isn't as enjoying to watch as in past times, and attendance has been horrible the last two years after mostly sellouts in previous decades.

What are your solutions to improving NASCAR?

A couple I would like to see...

1. A 'relegation and promotion' format added for all 3 series.
I'm tired of 25 drivers taking up the 100 driver spots in all 3 series. I'm also tired of Chase drivers using the Nationwide Series points championship as a consultation prize. And I'm really tired of old no good drivers taking up valuable Cup team spots just because of their last name or connections.

NASCAR needs a real minor league system that rewards talent, not connections.

2. Shorten races just a bit
A 3 hour race would be just as exciting as a 4 hour+ race. It would also save money and better keep viewers with short attention spans

Go back to the REAL points system
Get rid of the COT
Get rid of Brian France and Mike Helton

Why is this so hard to figure out?

1. If you are in the top 25 or thirty in the Cup series you are not allowed to race in Truck or Nationwide series. Those two series need to be a TRUE minor league system. I remember watching Busch Series races from 1998 and having a good time seeing young drivers trying to make names for themselves.

2. I tend to agree with shorter races.

3. Stop all this attack on "agressive driving." Dale Sr. would never have been able to prosper in today's powderpuff NASCAR. Remember the addage "rubbing is racing."

4. The car of tomorrow is garbage. Get rid of it and let these cars look different again.

5. Get rid of Pocono, California, Michigan and put in Kentucky (just for you Censusdata ), Another Darlington race, and North Wilkesboro.

WFW&P has a spectacular aura aboutWFW&P has a spectacular aura aboutWFW&P has a spectacular aura aboutWFW&P has a spectacular aura about
1- You must qualify for every race
2- Cup drivers to be allowed to compete in any series they desire, however unless the committment is full time (at least 1/2 of the races) they forfeit prize money and points.

The COT is a much safer car than the previous, but something needs to be done to make it more racier and more like a "stock" car again.

I agree with some of the points about the Nationwide series, some of the Cup regulars race just for "fun", but for the Nationwide drivers, those guys are just trying to survive and make a living. I like to the top 25 idea by Alanboy.

Getting rid of Helton or France is not going to happen. Also going back to the "old" points system won't happen either. Remember that NASCAR is a private company, the France's will be around for a long time.

Then you might as well get a headstone with the word NASCAR etched at the top. They are on life support right now.

What I'd like to see.

1) Quit the damn phantom yellows and yellows for a 4 inch piece of debris laying way outside the racing groove just so ESPN, ABC, etc. can have their version of the NFL's 2 minute warning to air more commercials. Nascar would be better off if they had thier own network IMO.

2) No garaunteed spots, qualify 43 cars and then invert the 43 straight up.

3) Get rid of some of the weekly wallbangers e.g. Hornish, Almendinger, Stremme and get some talent in all the cars. If you aren't producing in the NFL or MLB you either get benched or your cut PDQ, should be the same in NASCAR.

4) Create more of a free agency scenario for crew chiefs, why should JJ get Chad all the time? I'd like to see what Harvick could do with Chad or Addington chiefin for Jr. or stick KB with McGrew.

5)Just like the NFL and MLB revenue share, so it should be in NASCAR, the start and parks should be paid well enough to not start and park but actually compete.

You are not goign to get rid of connections. look at F1 where bring money means so much in getting a ride.Really the race has become a last 20 laps as the first doesn't mean much how days;except to watch crashes and the driver to tune thier suspensions for the sprint.
