Bruton Smith, owner of Charlotte Motor Speedway, has indicated that he's working on setting up a $20 million bonus for winning both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600, starting in 2011.

Most likely, Tony, Danica, Jaun Pablo and Casey... But maybe a few other drivers would try, Gordon, Johnson or KB, some Penske drivers?

Bruton has proposed that the Indy be moved to a starting time of 11AM to allow the drivers to finish Indy and get to Charlotte.

I think it would be better to have for Bruton move the Coke 600 to Saturday night, then keep the Indy at it's regular time on Sunday, that would make it more realistic.

$20 Million is a lot of cash, would draw a lot of media attention and is a relatively small investment for Bruton, seeing that he would just get an insurance policy on it.

Watcha all think?

It would make it a little more interesting to me. I'm not a big race fan but living in Indiana for the first 15 years of my life and in the Charlotte area for the last 15 years I will normally dedicate that one day to being a total couch potato. As you said in the op I can't see many teams being able to start in both races let alone win both.

Also being from Indy changing any of the traditions for the 500 including the start time would a major deal. I think you are right it would be easier to change the start time for the 600.

Does anyone think he ever will have to pay that $20 million ?

I can't see any of todays drivers winning both.

Strictly a publicity stunt ( IMHO )

Montoya IMO would have the best shot @ this, he's a good runner @ CMS to seal the deal

I think for something like this to work, there would have to be more time between the two races.

As it is, it would be difficult for a driver to finish at Indy if the race runs long, fly to Charlotte, and start and run in the Nascar race there.

For the Nascar drivers, this is a big issue because the 600 is a points race. If they couldn't score the points, they kill their championship run. So they really need to start the race and cannot risk not making it by race time.

Its can be done. Tony Stewart and Robby Gordon have driven both races on the same day before.
