Frankly, with thier low lease costs I think that may be the best way to go with BMW anymore.
The rule of thumb is lease new and ditch before the warranty expires. Most BMWs are leased anyway.

Which is why I'll stick to BMWs from before about 2003 (and no newer than '01 for the 7 series). Mine's a cheap daily driver.

I house and car-sit for a family friend and drive her 2004 Ford Explorer V8 at least once a week, more often if it's colder. The reason we added driving the car to the list was that she went from being gone for days to months at a time. The first time it happened, the car sat untouched for a month and the day before she got home, I thought I should check to see if it would start. Despite turning off all electrical loading, it cranked and then clicked...had to be jump started. Now I'll take it out and go for scenic drives usually between 50 and 75 miles a week. But that car has to sit for at least three weeks before it will have issues starting.

Oh it will start up but it only had 23 percent of battery life left on it and service writer said could never get it up to 50 percent again so it would be better to get new batter for safety also every time I turned it on it had that awful triangle with the exclamation mark in it the said battery is discharging.
