what do you plan on doing with it?
the F100 is a half ton and the chevy is a 3/4 ton
both are solid trucks I guess take it to a mechanic and get it inspected to see it either need any major repairs down the road.
I would look at getting a V-8 a 360 FE or 390 FE block in the ford or 350 small block or 454 big block in the chevy. it would give it some more power the inline six motors. true the inline-6 has great low end tprque but on the freeway they are not to great and really limit passing power.
Well I'm a chevy man from way back. Had a 65 3/4 with a 350 engine and a turbo 350 trans beefed up to 400. Drove it for 17-1/2 yrs before selling. Wish I had that baby back now. The trucks original engine was a 327 but I needed more power for a camper and large travel trailer to pull. The power and quick shifting tranny worked real nice.
The 292 and stick tranny was a original low dollar work horse. It would be a reasonable gas user with a auto trans if I had it...mainly used as a car and maybe a little hauling.
One thing about chevy is that there is a large abundance of parts avaiable if needed...besides you say all body work has been done...a large plus there...whereas the Ford needs work.

sports a posi in the rear

keeping tires on a Twin I Beam can be expensive

Fuel cell behind drivers seat and does it have the wood in the bed ?

The 300 I6 is a good motor but like to leak and is known
for lifter noise, 3spd linkage tends to get out of alignment
power steering could be added for about $800 other wise
you'll be saying Full Right rudder on every turn and forget
about any close parking lots.

they ran solid axle fronts till the re-vamped 1980 model then went to the front TTB. that's why 73-79 f-seies that came with the factory solid axle are so popular with off road enthusiasts.
I would say a ford or chevy pick-up from the 70's is pretty even.
I guess get which one you like the best. Both were bulit tough and were great trucks the only thing now is rust was a major killer of these but if it is rust free they are very easy to work on and if you can't pretty much any independant mechanic can wrench on them with ease. plus parts are every where for them.
I will be mostly be using it to move light but bulky items, probably nowhere close to 1/2 ton. Some odd yard work, maybe a piece of furniture here and there. It will probably be used a couple of times a month at most.
Offhand I like the 72 better than the 75 - better looking truck IMHO. I like the Chevy 292 as well.
That said I would have to see both trucks, the price/condition of the Ford could win me over.
So long as neither one is rusty, you don't have a bad choice in either of them.
