I live in new Jersey, and trust me, I would rather pump my own gas in Colorado than get it pumped here.

I suppose it doesn't take much to make some people happy.

Where I live there are no full service stations. We have no choice but to pump our own. And most likley I would anyway because I am a bit of a control freak.

I'll pump my own gas and consider paying more, just not to ever have to live in NJ again!
Course, gas here in Tx. is relatively cheap compared to elsewhere.

I know how to pump gas, and I don't see the thrill in doing so during a July or August heat wave nor in a January or February snowstorm.

When I was a kid, the attendant at the Esso station pumped gas, checked the oil, cleaned the windshield and said, "Have a good day, Sir" to my father.

Why should I consider a lack of service, no service, a plus?

The idea of anyone pumping their own gas is antiquated. I say leave it to the professionals.

I live in Oregon and thankfully I am on the border of Oregon and Washington. I drive over the bridge into Washington and pump my own gas. I do not like the fact it is illegal to pump my own gas in Oregon. It causes lines waiting to buy gas, it takes up time. One has to wait for the attendant. Sometimes he puts the gas in and then gives me a slip to go wait in another line to pay. I have no idea how anyone would prefer the time consuming method Oregon has. Also the gas always costs more than the rest of the country on the west coast, so at least let us pump our own gas Oregon.

Yeah, I avoid buying gas in Oregon since they won't let me pump it. Like valet parking, a pump jockey is a "service" that I don't need and don't want.

It's never crossed my mind, actually. I got gas in Jersey once (and not just from diner food) in some little city off I-80 and it was nice and cheap, but don't you have to tip the attendant? I'd rather pump my own than tip him.

NJ did have an experiment where some self service stations were allowed as a trial. It was not renewed, and it's back to normal with an attendant who pumps gas for you.

I have only tipped two attendants in my life. One was exceedingly nice and the other was working graveyard on Christmas.
