Its August 31st. the last day of the month.

i've done several face book posts about where i'm seeing cops.

to be more specific, i can go days without seeing an officer on the side of the road observing traffic.

but why is it on the 31st they're everywhere?

i keep getting responses of "cops don't have quotas and anyone who says so is BS"

well i'd really like a good explanation of why i've seen 4 cops today on the side of the road, radar ready.

and i saw a motorcycle cop yesterday on a local street, with a radar in his hand.

any reason that is?

If anybody says "cops don't have quotas", ask them what happens if they work all week or all month on traffic patrol and don't write any at all.

California Vehicle Code:

Quote:
41600. For purposes of this chapter, "arrest quota" means any requirement regarding the number of arrests made, or the number of citations issued, by a peace officer, or parking enforcement employee, or the proportion of those arrests made and citations issued by a peace officer or parking enforcement employee, relative to the arrests made and citations issued by another peace officer or parking enforcement employee, or group of officers or employees.

Added Ch. 1111, Stats. 1976. Effective January 1, 1977.
Amended Sec. 1, Ch. 105, Stats. 2002. Effective January 1, 2003.

This. Maybe it's not an explicit "you must issue x number of tickets this month", but cops don't look good when they haven't written a single ticket all day. It's a revenue generator for the department, after all.

I do find it very interesting that you'll see them out in force with their radar guns on a particular time of month, though...

In Pennsylvania I'm sure there is no quota. The only time you see more cops than usual is when they announce that more will be out such as on certain holidays. Otherwise, there never seems to be a difference.

Local police also aren't allowed to operate radar...only the State Troopers.

Cops also claim they never eat donuts too. Do you believe that one?

When I was a police Explorer in the 90s, I asked the officer this very question. He said that it was against Michigan law. That said, I have heard of some departments doing this illegally. Who would know unless someone went whistleblower on their own department?

Denver, Colorado Ticket Quota Uncovered

Colorado has quotas. Frankly, I didn't know it was against the law anywhere else.

Default dumb drivers

there are no quotas. they are called performance expectations. its part of the employee performance evaluation. also; if you aren't speeding you wont get a ticket. amazing why people complain about speeding tickets. do you think its your right to do 80 in a 70zone?
