I have been looking for a certified used car. I found a one year old Certified Used Vehicle with low mileage (under 10,000 miles) that was used by a dealer as a demo vehicle and then as a loaner. The mileage is very low and I have been told it is in excellent condition. It is about $10,000 less than a brand new vehicle. We are seeing this vehicle tomorrow. So what do you think? Would you buy it? Jay
*IF* the vehicle was tagged as a loaner/demo car, then it is probably sold AS NEW. MOST manufacturers will offer the new car warranty starting when YOU buy the car. (even though the car has 10k miles on it, as far as the warranty is concerned, you're buying a car with 0 miles).
If this is the case, then is say go for it. Just keep in mind, the car DOES had 10k miles on it. So thats 10k miles on the tires, brakes, etc.
Thanks. It is being sold as a "Certified Pre-Owned" vehicle with a CPO warranty. For about the same price I am finding older vehicles with more miles. It is $10k less than brand new so that compansates for the age and mileage. Jay
Interesting. As long as the warranty is long enough for you (how long you will keep the car, etc), then I don't see a problem with it.
The only issue with it being sold as "used" is that it will show as a 2 owner vehicle when you go to sell it. This can SOMETIMES lower the value ... depending on how you're selling it to.
I would like to keep the vehicle for 8 years or longer if possible. It is a very reliable brand with a history of lasting a long time. Considering I was looking at used anyways, I don't have a problem being the second owner. But I was wondering if anyone thought there is an issue with it being driven by multiple people instead of just one driver. Jay
From the dealerships where I get loaner cars, I would not hesitate to recommend one to someone to purchase. However, if the service department is sub-par, I would look elsewhere. For a reliable brand, with a good dealer/service department, the car will be far from excessively worn.
Most people get the loaner to get to their house/office and back to the dealer, perhaps a couple of days, not for trips, or to abuse the car with racing, etc.

If you would buy a car that has been used by random members of a high school senior class for a year with no supervision, you can buy a loaner. I would not even consider it. If you want a used car, get one with the same mileage on it as the loaner. Your model year will be older but, it will be a better car.
