We bought this vehicle this past springtime. I just opened the hood for the first time yesterday since we purchased it and the hood insulation was just trashed, more than a mouse would do. I can't explain it. I know my garage inside-out, it's very clean and I've never seen any indication of the hood material on the floor, so I don't think it's an animal but there's no other explanation.

Could the insulation be so cheap the engine heat just ruined it? I don't think so.

Any thoughts anyone?

The new SRX has a really thick piece of hood insulation. I haven't heard of any complaints regarding it wearing out or damaging. Are there any fluid leaks noticeable? Maybe a tech got careless when doing service and splashed something on the insulation that could have damaged it.

Since it is a new car, I would personally be heading over to the Cadillac dealer and asking them to replace it.

No, no leaks or stains.

My guess is the dealer will say by animals.........

You bought the car this spring and you are only now, in the fall opening the hood for the first time?!

Not to be harsh, but, you have to be kidding me...

I know some newer cars don't even have an oil dipstick, (not that I will ever buy such..) but just ritualistically I would open the hood at least weekly to take a look around...cast an eye on the flux capacitors, that sort of thing.

Uncle Rickover would dress you down smartly for not at least taking a peek more often than 2X a year...

Did you look under the hood when you bought the car? Was it damaged then?

If it's certified pre owned, while you should have looked before you bought, the dealer really *ought* to fix this for free, and promptly. If they will or not, depends on how much they want to keep you as a customer I guess.

It's a relatively cheap piece. You said you bought it new, so I would take it in and have them take a look. Even if it might be caused by an animal or something, they may cover it as a courtesy.

Take it back to the dealer and see what they can do. Either way, I would replace it.

Always look under the hood before you buy anything. I always inspect under the hood and even underneath at the chassis before I buy anything.

I looked at my friend's SRX today and it was perfect. Talk to the dealer, since I agree that they may cover it as a courtesy, since Cadillac doesn't need to alienate any purchasers right now.
