I had mine tinted for 18%. Illegal, sure...but here in AL every cop car has limo tint so they can't enforce a law they they themself break. In other states, what do you have on your car?

One way the police bust people on window tint is the tint installer does not either consider the factory window tint ( and ALL vehicles have some tint in the glass now) and they install a "legal" say 35 percent. But the vehicle owner gets pulled over, window tint checked, and it shows up as 18 percent! Ticket and court to follow if the State's law says 35 % max. Opps. The easiest way to spot undercover cops is the ones driving around in what might as well be painted black windows vehicles and never get pulled over for it! And idiots will still buy and sell drugs from/to the undercover cop in a vehicle like that.
Missouri's law is a silly too light of a tint max at 35%. With most factory glass, you end up at 15 to 19% if you install a tint rated at 35%.

Blue oval OEM dark! Hey, it's pretty dark for stock. At least my CDs don't melt!

when has being completely hypocritical ever been a problem for our government or the cops?
here in arizona, 35% is allowed on the front doors, and you can paint over the rear windows if you want. my car has 35% front, 20% rear, and no windshield strip. arizona does allow for factory tint on windows, so as long as the tint meter indicates at least 25%(iirc) on the front windows, the tint is considered legal.
Michigan is very strict. My cars are usually plated in Michigan, and Ive had to take off the tintng when I buy southern cars. If you put Michigan plates on a front-tinted car, you will be stopped by the police the first day, maybe the first hour, for tint violation.
Some states have a history of convoluted tint laws that would make one believe that the legislature spends more time debating tint, than the state budget.
how much are they usually? would it be worth it to have the tint removed, or just leave it and pay the ticket every once in a while?
A tint shop will remove it for about ten bucks a window. Unless you're experienced or have watched someone do it, it's better to pay a pro. It can be hard to get off clean if you don't do it right.
