This might be better in the NJ forum, than the automotive.

I have heard of Lincoln Tech, they seem to be a good school.

Maybe the best advice is to ask some local techs, and shop owners, which school they like.

I live in NJ too. Unfortunately good mechanical training is hard to come by in NJ and diesel training even harder.

As M3 said Lincoln Tech is the big one in this area, but from everything I have heard from mechanics and graduates it is a complete waste of money. Very little hands on experience, a lot of book knowledge and business skills on how to run your own shop. It is a diploma mill!!!

For good training you will have to broaden your horizons and look outside of NJ.

I herd the same thing john i would not spend a dime in Lincoln tech but how about the other two schools i haven't herd anything bad about them?

and what do you mean broaden my horizons, basically move out of jersey all together and move out to pa or some rural part in the good ol usa? I would not even now where to begin to look at some good schools.

I read that thread about diesel mechanic training but it does not go into depth about the schools .

I don't know about engine city or pennco. Try what M3 Mitch suggested and post in the NJ forum.

Most people think Universal Technical Institute (UTI) is the best for diesel training. They have a location in Exton, PA.

I don't know your area of the country, but I'd be curious to know if there are any Community Colleges or public school Vo-Tech's in the area?

These can be a tremendous value for your diesel tech education, and may be a lot less expensive than a "for-profit" tech school.

My son went to UTI out in Ca. He loved it and was pursued actively by all the larger auto companies...He finally decided to go with BMW...they picked up his tab on the good part of the schooling, sent him on to their own school and he is now a Master Tech with BMW. Making very good money.

I lied...he is not a MT yet! Actually, just spoke with him and he was telling me they cancelled the last class he needed to be certified as a Master. Not scheduled yet...so.... But...still making great money and will get a bump when he does obtain the MT status!
I might add....UTI also helps in the process of finding you employment.

You might want to speak to a professional diesel technician recruiter about thier opinion of which school has the best diesel program in NJ. Engine City tech was bought by Lincoln Tech and is the only trade school in NJ that offers solely diesel engine and heavy truck training. Know the facts. Visit all the school for yourself.
