When I used to drive my Geo Metro to Springfield, I would be going 60 at the bottom of the hill and about 35 at the top. I got lots of dirty looks and honks! But those three little pistons were doing their best in that 1.0 liter engine. LOL
But I LOVED that car!

If I made the rules, then signs like this would go up all over the country
My first car.. 1979 Cutlass Supreme, with a 305 factory 4bbl... it only when to 85, but i could bury the needle.. no idea how fast it was really going..
I used to have a 1993 Mercury Sable with a 3.8L V6. It wasn't extremely fast, but it was snappy enough to keep me happy. Speedometer went only to 85, but I could burry the needle on it. My guess is that it would reach 105-110, tops.
85 mph? God I''ve broke enough of those barely moving things! Yes, my cars with 85mph speedos always ran alot faster than that! Not sure what the mph was, but my 78 Grand Prix with 2.41 rear gears, and a 29" tall rear tire was turning 5800 rpm (400turbo trans) when the windshield started cracking! Buddy of mines 165 mph 'vette was getting way behind me! He was like "dude! I was all out and you blew my doors off!"
Anyone who drove a late 70's car or just about anything built in the 80's probably had an 85 m.p.h. speedo. Did you have one in your car? What kind of car did you have with this speedometer, and would it go faster than 85? If it went faster, what was it's top speed and how were you able to determine it (i.e. clocked, etc)?
Hahaha! I actually had a 1986 Iroc Z-28 with a 305 and 4 barrel carb...that had 85mph as the top reading.
I'm pretty sure my parents' 1987 Plymouth Voyager's speedometer only went up to 85 or 90.
