Toyota FT-86 coming 2012
Scion To Sell Toyota FT-86 in 2012
Instead of going to Toyota, it's going to Scion.

Scion FR-S is a lame name. I guess the Toyota marketing people didn't get my email, because there's no way they would have rejected "Toyota Trueno". I hope Subaru got my email suggesting "Subaru Alcyone".

wow it's that or for the same price a 304HP V6 mustang that gets 31MPG
my vote is for the V6 mustang or WRX in that price range.
they also have to compete against the genesis coupe as well
the 25K-28K market for sporty cars is red hot right now and very competitive

IMO it costs too much for what it is. The closest car I could think of to this is really the S2k and that starts at a tick over $20k. Why the S2K? Because they were going for S2K style handling and power with this car. The extra 2 seats really aren't worth $5k and like others said they will run headlong into many "better" cars at that price point. If they could have priced the base model around $22k and gotten the turbo version to $26k it would really be something worth looking at.
However, it is nice to see Toyota making ANYTHING that resembles a sports car (LFA doesn't count, lol).

I think maybe I'm missing something with your comparison? They don't even make the S2K anymore, and when they did it started at a whole lot more than "a tick over $20K" -- though I suspect worth the extra asking price by the time this car is sussed out by the automotive press. I would think the RX8 would be a much closer comparison.

You're probably right on the RX8 being the better comparison, and I totally brain farted on the S2k's price. In 2009 they started at like $34k. I only really mentioned the S2K, because everything I've read on the FT-86 says they were benchmarking the handling against cars like the S2K. Basically, the point of the car is handling and road course performance, not brute power. Still, it seems like it will be underpowered given the competitors in the class.
