This is a common technique. Works great if you know what you're doing and it is something I ABSOLUTELY would try at home or anywhere for that matter if it was needed.
Use this all the time on implement tires in the field. Works great, blows the bead onto the rim so you can air up the tire. The first time I saw it done, it was a little intimidating ... but now it's no big deal.

I've done it too, a shot of starting fluid then ignite it and wooshbang it's back on. You just have to have come compressed air ready, because when it cools it will lose pressure. (the hot air contracts when it cools)
Its just to re-bead the tire onto the rim. We do this every other time we are off road because a lot of the guys drop their pressure too low and the mud pulls those tires right off the rim. I have Staun internal beadlocks and don't ever have the problem.
