Anybody else get exasperated trying to master a new gas pump?
I just counted 24 stickers, warnings, buttons, gauges, dials, etc, on a self service pump, each one's gaudy attention grabbing characteristics inversely proportional to the utility of the feature in dispensing fuel. Twenty four, not counting the card slot and the receipt feed-out, which were unlabeled and relatively invisible. And I didn't count the advertising panel space reserved for the retailers marketing pitch.
Thanks to the miracle of intellectual property laws, there are no two gas pumps with the necessary buttons or indicators or switches in the same place, so it all has to be learned anew each time you pull up to a different station.
I just insert card and pump gas. Never really had an issue figuring one out. Most are pretty similar other than the placement of a few buttons... at least they are here.
What I don't like is a pump that talks to you or runs a video commercial on the screen while I pump gas.
Yes and in at least Texas there is a "nanny" warning to place any lawnmower gasoline container on the the ground before filling it. I almost went to jail over that one. The funny thing is they now worry about when this newer gasoline won't hardly burn and didn't worry when it would.
All the pumps around here, you just insert and remove card and follow instructions on screen, if needed, but they all work the same as far as I can tell.

...the rest, I'm sure we're all familiar with, only other difference is the occasional question of whether or not you want a receipt.
