Does anyone here know what the "real world" mpg average is for the new F-150's with EcoBoost engines? How is power & torque compared to the V8 engines? How much more do you have to pay for the EcoBoost engine? Is it worth it?
I would avoid it till it get proven and since it is more expensive to get the the base motor even more reason to stay away from it IMI
because the base motor in the 2011 F150 is the all new for 2011 DOHC 5.0 4-Valve coyote motor also if you need more grunt they now offer the all new 6.2 liter V-8 to replace the old triton SOHC 3-valve 5.4 liter.
the ecoboost V6 is already a proven engine, since it has been in the taurus sho now for a year. and the base motor for the new F150 is NOT the 5.0 but rather a non turbo version of the ecoboost V6. as for real world fuel economy for the ecoboost V6, a member on another board took a test drive in one, and the computer indicated an average fuel economy of 25mpg.

my bad the base model engine for the Lariat is the 5.0 V-8
the 3.7 V-6 is the base in the XL and XLT.
still for a full size pick-up I would go with the 5.0 it is one of the best motors ford has come out with in a long time for performace and towing power and it still gets decent fuel economy.
Turbos will eventually fail, not sure how they will do when towing 7,000lb+ regularly. Ford is advertising 22MPG HIGHWAY...probably 4x2. If the F-150 wasn't so ugly, I might consider one =)
I'd consider one in a heartbeat. The horse power and torque out of a V6 shows great potential. Granted I am leary of purchasing a first year engine in new application I still believe the eco boost is worthy of a try.
Last fall my dad purchased a 2011 F150 with the 6.2 gas. It is the first gas pickup he has owned in 25 years. I had about 4600 miles about half of those are pulling a trailer. With the cost of diesel verus the economy of a gas he is spending about the same amount of money on fuel. He is able to run with my brother and nephew in their diesels (7.3 power stroke and a 5.9 cummins)
The upshot is he saved about $8,000 in purchase price.
I thnik it really depends on what you use your truck for. Its really no different than picking the rearend ratio or a v6 or V8 as in the pqst. Anythime you take a small dispalcement engine and ask it to do more there are conseqences ans always has been.
