I have a 5 speed 04 Saturn Ion with 105K miles. Here are the symptoms

- Very Slight shudder when it is idling or running on the road

- Clutch release point seems to have been adjusted. I have to slowly release it an inch, hold for a second and then normal release. Else it jerks if released normally

- The gas pedal feels like some air is pushing back towards my feet.

Please help!!

With that number of miles and your symptoms, it's probably a worn out clutch, but could also be input shaft bearing, but either way the engine has to be pulled so best to do both at the same time.

If so, figure about $600 at a reasonable transmission shop, $1,000 at the dealer.

why would a worn out clutch lead to shudder while idling at neutral? and I didn't feel any slipping of clutch

Here's help: Never tell a mechanic "The gas pedal feels like some air is pushing back towards my feet." While you may know what you mean, I can guarantee they won't. So, they won't waste time trying to figure out what you're saying, they will test drive and OBD scan tool the car to figure out what to do.

My advice: leave your above statement out of the "problem" description when talking to a mechanic. It's beyond confusing.
