As For Ford theyre doing well here I dont beleive theyre in debt to the government and when I did read on it, it didnt say they took the line of credit, they said it was available to them. I knew GM's Buick brand was I think still is one of if not the biggest seller in China and the south pacific.
Ford has it's own debt that has nothing to do with the bailout (though Ford Credit did take bailout money, but that's a different story). Ford mortgaged their own assets (even the Blue Oval) to raise cash. They currently have about a $20+ billion debt load that they have been chipping away at.

Very true. GM will eventually be privately owned again, probably within the next few years. However, Ford did what it had to do to stay solvent. They bet the farm and so far they are winning.

Well, there were never a hundred MAJOR automobile companies. Since many were minor players, then you could say there are still a lot of privately owned American car companies. Not all of them make many cars, and one of the classics is holding on by a thread with only one old prototype to it's name (Packard).

Never mind if you get stuck in some freaky traffic jam and then just run out of juice.

I did not say major did I? There were over 1800 automobile manufacturers in the United States from 1896 to 1930..

Look at this list of at least 500..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._manufacturers

another list.. just of electric cars!

all the foreign companies have factories here with american workers to get over with the american public and for 12-14 dollars an hour in the south why not? ur money still goes to a korean company and the korean economy tho, major difference.

I'm glad for Ford, but I wish they weren't so darn white bread, compared to other cars.
