Default Ash trays in cars, past and present

Today's cars don't come with ash trays. You can get a smoker's package which is an ash tray that fits in a cup holder. Saw an old car and it reminded ms of how many ash trays came in those cars. Each rear door had one built into the arm rest. Did even the children smoke back then? What's the most ash trays you've seen factory installed in an old car? The one I saw had four.

I dont smoke but I think the auto makers quit doing this just to save money then try to use the excuse of smoking being bad for you so the public would accept it. Then they can make money off the "smokers package" but most just toss the butt out the window now lol

My grandma had an old early 70 4 door ford of some kind and there were ash trays in every door and i think even one between the back seats.

Does that count?

First off no the children didn't smoke back then...

If I remember right in the old cars you had an ashtray with lighter in the front and an ashtray with lighter in each of the back doors.

Some old station wagons had 4....

My 2003 Chevy Malibu has two ash trays, one inthe front center and one in the rear center, neither on ever used. It does have one cigarette lighter in front and one aux jack near by. When traveling, my wife and I can charge both cell phones at the same time.

Another question: is it true that the cigarette lighter is much bigger around than the cigarette because it's made to light cigars? And if so, has anyone here actually tried to use it to light a cigar?

I think in most cars, the owner's manual even called it a Cigar Lighter.

Now cars come with cold and hot cup holders.

My 06 Magnum has an ash tray. I use it for change.

I think my 09 Mustang has a ash tray under the cup holder... I never checked since I don't smoke.

A lot of parents hot boxed their children, so yes - the kids did smoke. Hot box is when you keep the windows all closed. I knew one parent that kept a fan belt up front to swing on the kids if they tried to roll down a window.
