As complex a machine as a car is unless you get a killer deal from a non-dealer source it pays to evaluate the candidate vehicle yourself.

Are there honestly people who wouldn't test drive a car before buying (or have someone they trust do it for them)? I can't imagine what the reason would be for someone to do that.

I can't imagine not driving a USED car before buying.

If I were in the market for a NEW high performance vehicle like a Nissan GT-R or a Porsche 911 GT2, I would expect NOT to get a test drive and WOULD buy without one.

I usually know what I want before I buy so a test drive is not necessary. The only exception would be that I would have to at least see if I fit in the drivers seat.
I plan on buying a new Boss 302. Do I care if the Camaro might have a smoother ride or the ZO6 is faster? I know what the Boss can do and if I fit in the seat that's all that counts.

Yes used cars do require a test drive.

Yes, why wouldn't you? ESPECIALLY if it's used, I'll test drive it.

It depends entirely on the car being looked at. There have been a # of cars we have bought, that the Dealer would not let anyone drive unless money was put down first. No one wants an Exotic with mileage put on it. For an everyday driver, than yes, always test drive, before we buy.

Really? Cuz even the Ferrari guys here will let you drive it. Porsche guys let me 'launch control' a brand new car, too. All six figure cars.

I'm guessing something ultra-exotic you have to special order might not be something they'd be down with.
