Quite possibly the coolest American car ever built. All I can think of when I see one of these is "Now that's a cool fkn car" Anyone own one? I dream of owning one.

I agree. Now I can see why the Rock band called Chevelle is named after this car. haha
They should make cars like the Chevelle these days.

I had one in high school and college. Had a 4 speed. Lots of fun. I see them all the time at old car shows. I wanted one as a convertible, but they were too expensive so I got a 71 Olds Cutlass convertible as a fun car...

I owned an all original 1970 LS-6 SS Chevelle at one point. The most stupidest thing I did was to sell it. I can say categorically that this was the worst decision of my life.

when I got out of high school (1970) I was working for the forest service. I looked into buying a brand new car. The chevy dealer had a 70 ss with a 454, 4spd etc. It was selling for 4500.00 way too expensive for me, so I bought a 57 chevy for afew hundred.

Really, the last year of the factory muscle car was 1969. From 70-72 the smog equipment dropped the horsepower way down. Then in 1973 and after they were all show and no go.

Until about 3 years ago I had a '72 El Camino and had to do a lot of work to get it back up to 330 hp. A lot of fun to drive and tinker on for the 6 years I had it.

Performance wise from the factory, yeah, but I prefer the looks of the 2 headlight '71s vs the 4 headlight '70s. And since real performance is just a few bolt-ons away, how little power they had vs the previous years is a non-issue.
